Coming to the Clay September 25: NOSFERATU with a live original score by BONJON PDF E-mail

Although I wouldn't suggest it, if you pitted the elegant Count Dracula--he of the pomaded hair and crisp suits--against the hideous, long-taloned Nosferatu in a vampire cage match, I think it's quite clear who would be the winner. Nosferatu would collect his prize (all-you-can-drink from a jugular tap, naturally) in record time.

For proof, just check out director F.W. Murnau's 1922 German Expressionist classic, "Nosferatu," with the incomparable Max Schreck in the lead role. Was there ever an actor more suited for a part than Schreck, whose very name means terror in German and whose real features were so rodent-like that Murnau only needed to slap some pointy ears and false teeth on him in order to transform Schreck into the frightening blood-sucker?

How frightening? The film was banned in Sweden, due to "excessive horror," until 1972. The Clay is proud to present "Nosferatu" with an original score performed live by the electronic maestro Bonjon.

About Your host for the evening, BONJON

ImageBonJon, the stage name of artist, Jonathan Phillip Luis, grew up in the San Francisco bay area and now lives and works in Los Angeles. A graduate of UCLA, he studied English and Critical Studies and continues to be an avid reader of Contemporary Theory and Philosophy, which widely influence his work.

BonJon performs live in clubs, movie theatres, and outdoor venues to a variety of audiences. His performances are highly experimental, usually computer generated experiences, which include video, film, and art installations. Concepts and themes for his shows center around the intersection of technology, sexuality, psychology and religion--elements that come into play in an unusual manner during a performance. For his shows, various audio and video sources are mixed in a creative way using video and film projectors and a multi-channel surround sound system.
