Page 1 of 2 Saturday June 21st is Solstice Lounge night (21+ w/ID) with drinks sure to put down even a Reaver as the Clay celebrates closing night for this season of the Late Night Picture Show.
Crew members aboard a transport vessel get caught in a deadly conflict in the wake of a galactic war, while being pursued by a relentless government agent out to capture the psychic River Tam who holds a clue to her special abilities. Based on the cult TV series "Firefly.''
Calling All Browncoats!
Based on the series Firefly and the brainchild of Joss Whedon (who thought up Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel), Serenity is a futuristic, sci-fi battle between Serenity's crew and... well, everyone else. River Tam is a scrawny psychic who can take out the occupants of an entire bar in a few minutes thanks to her government honed fighting ability. The crew sees the raw power behind this tiny girl and start to shake in their space boots. Should they kick her and her brother Simon off the ship? Or keep them? Leave them? Or keep them? When River spills the beans about "Miranda" the gang on board Serenity get a little more than they bargained for and set off on this super-space adventure.
The future looks bleak, everyone's evacuated planet earth (I'm getting kind of tired of this crummy place, myself) and they've all gone to inhabit other planets across the galaxy. Some of the planets did well, and others-- well-- not so good. But I imagine it gets pretty rough when there are bloodthirsty cannibals roaming around uncharted areas of space. Not only that, the military is evil and ruthless and wants dear little River Tam. They really want River. Really, REALLY want her. The Operative (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, who was much sweeter in 'Kinky Boots') will stop at nothing to get River and kill her, so nobody else finds out what she knows about "Miranda." If nothing else, it's good fun to see all the ways that Joss Whedon can make girls fight. But River is no college vampire killer, she is a spooky wide-eyed spaceship stowaway who can fling her limbs and kill WAY more cannibals than me. She gets to freak out the rest of the crew with her eerie high-pitched voice and her mind-powers. How come my friends are never psychic killing machines? If any of your friends happen to be, bring 'em along, 'cause they sure will enjoy Serenity at Midnight! theatrical trailer and a gallery of Serenity images follow on the next page.
